January 14: Cretans revolt at Servili, Chania demanding union with Greece.
January 16: The Greeks of Thessaly revolt against Ottoman yoke at Vrynia.
January 21: 24,000 Greek troops, under Gen. Skarlatos Soutsos, invade Thessaly to protect the locals who rebelled against Ottoman yoke.

February 12: 2,000 Cretan rebels attack fort Icedin at Chania.
February 12: 700 Epirote rebels occupy Agioi Saranta, Northern Epirus.
February 15: Rebels from Thessaly turn back a Turkish attack of some 4,000 regular troops at Makrinitsa, Pelion.
February 19: The Treaty of San Stefano is signed, temporarily ceding most of Greek-claimed Macedonia to a Great Bulgaria.

July 22: The first British High Commissioner of Cyprus, Sir Garnet Wolseley, arrives at Larnaca. The Bishop of Kitium, Kyprianos, reads an address of welcome which reportedly said: "we accept the change of Government in as much as we trust that Great Britain will help Cyprus, as it did the Ionian Islands, to be united with mother Greece, with which it is naturally connected."

October 3: The Treaty of Chalepa is signed between the Ottoman Empire and Cretan rebels granting Crete partial autonomy.
