- January 2: Greek-American diva Maria Callas leaves the set after the first act of "Norma", causing a stir in the audience which includes the President of Italy.
March
- March 12: Fotis Pittas, Andreas Karios and two other EOKA members escape from Pyla prison.
May
- May 11: Constantine Karamanlis is reelected PM with ERE winning 41.16% of the vote. Surprisingly, the United Democratic Left comes in second with 24.42%.
September
- September 2: The Battle of Liopetri takes place; four EOKA members - Fotis Pittas, Andreas Karios, Christos Samaras and Elias Papakyriakou are killed.
- September 4: Greek Police announce that any and all "teddy boys" would be given a clean cut.
November
- November 19: The first game on grass in Leoforos Alexandras Stadium (later renamed to Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium is a friendly between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos. Olympiakos wins with a goal by Elias Yfantis and a 1-0 score.
