- March 18: Archbishop Makarios III asks the Greek government to replace Gen. Georgios Grivas as head of the Greek forces in Cyprus.
- March 30: AEK become the first Greek club to play in the semi-finals of the European Champions' Cup of basketball. They lose to Slavia Prague 103-73.

- April 26: A no-confidence motion against the Stephanopoulos government fails.
August
- August 16: Giorgos Koudas debuts with Olympiakos in a pre-season friendly. Koudas will return to PAOK in 1967 without having played a single competitive game for Olympiakos.

- September 2: Christos Papanikolaou wins the silver medal (5.05m) in pole vault at the European Championships in Budapest. East German Wolfgang Nordwig, his worthy opponent in many major competitions, wins the gold medal (5.10m)
