- March 23: General Thrasyvoulos Tsakalotos meets Markos Vafiadis and shakes hands with him in front of TV cameras. The two men had commanded opposing sides in the Greek Civil War.

- August 3: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November fail in their attempt to assassinate US officer Robert Judd near Elliniko Air Base.
- August 4: Babis Cholidis wins bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling in the Los Angeles Olympiad.
- August 21: Greek javelin champion Anna Verouli fails to pass the anti-doping test at the Los Angeles Olympics.
- August 31: Mimis Domazos' farewell football game. Panathinaikos - Boca Juniors 2-3 at OAKA Stadium in front of 50,000 spectators. Domazos asked the coach to replace him with Spyros Livathinos at the 78th minute of the game.
