  • April 18 (NS): King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra arrive in Athens to attend the 1906 Athens Olympiad.
  • April 22 (NS): The 1906 Athens "Olympiad" commences. This competition was outside the Olympic Games' four-year cycle and was organised in order to revive the Games which were in danger of dying out after the 1904 St Louis circus-like flop.

  • July 9: Metropolitan Photius of Korytsa is murdered during the Macedonian Struggle.
