March 17: Christina Onassis weds Thierry Roussel.
March 23: General Thrasyvoulos Tsakalotos meets Markos Vafiadis and shakes hands with him in front of TV cameras. The two men had commanded opposing sides in the Greek Civil War.

April 17: Turkey exchanges ambassadors with the self-proclaimed "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus"

May 11: The Security Council of the UN condemns the exhange of ambassadors between Turkey and the self-proclaimed "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus"

August 3: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November fail in their attempt to assassinate US officer Robert Judd near Elliniko Air Base.
August 4: Babis Cholidis wins bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling in the Los Angeles Olympiad.
August 21: Greek javelin champion Anna Verouli fails to pass the anti-doping test at the Los Angeles Olympics.
August 31: Mimis Domazos' farewell football game. Panathinaikos - Boca Juniors 2-3 at OAKA Stadium in front of 50,000 spectators. Domazos asked the coach to replace him with Spyros Livathinos at the 78th minute of the game.

September 1: Evangelos Averoff resigns as head of the New Democracy Party. He is replaced by Constantine Mitsotakis who defeats Kostis Stephanopoulos in a special vote of party officials.
