- January 3: General Nikolaos Plastiras forms a government in the midst of the post-World War II crisis. His greatest achievement will be the Varkiza Agreement.
February
- February 12: The Varkiza Agreement is signed - it was an agreement that terminated institutionally the political and military fighting of December 1944 ("December events") and aimed at reconciliating the opposite blocs of the country.
March
- March 7: Prime Minister Nikolaos Plastiras rules out Communists for his cabinet.
- March 23: DDT arrives in Greece to combat malaria.

- April 9: Greece resumes diplomatic relations with Argentina.
June
- June 16: Aris Velouchiotis blows himself up with a hand grenade to avoid arrest. The former EAM leader had been denounced by the Greek Communist Party and was wanted by both royalists and communists.
