- 1909: The "Military Association", under Col. Nikolaos Zorbas, demonstrated demanding reforms in the military. This movement went down in history as the "Goudi Revolt".
- 1955: Michalis Karaolis, with two EOKA companions, executed Special Branch police constable Herodotus Poullis in Ledra Street, Lefkosia.
- 2001: Archbishop Christodoulos announced that 3 million Greek citizens had voted to allow religious affiliation on national identity cards following an informal poll conducted by the Church of Greece.
