- 1835: Kyriakos Serfiotis was sworn in as the first mayor of Piraeus.
- 1975: CIA Station Chief Richard Welch was assassinated outside his villa in Psychiko. A previously unheard of organisation called the "Revolutionary Organization 17 November" took responsibility.
- Births: Stjepan Bobek, coached Panathinaikos and Olympiakos (1923); Chronis Aidonidis, folklore singer (1928); Gogo Atzoletaki, actress (1953); Dimitris Mavrogenidis, footballer (1976).
- Deaths: Yiannis Sideris, theater historian, founder of the Museum and Study Centre of the Greek Theatre (1975)
