- 1828: A French force of 16,000 men lands in Messenia to force Ibrahim Pasha out of Peloponnesus.
- 1878: The first Cyprus newspaper, "Kypros-Cyprus", hits the stands in Nicosia. It consisted of two pages in Greek and two pages in English.
