1855: Dimitrios Voulgaris forms his first government.
1896: Procopius II is elected Archbishop of Athens and all Greece.
1922: The Armistice of Mudanya is signed between Britain, France, Italy on the one hand and Turkey on the other.
1962: Cement firm "Titan" begins operations in Thessaloniki.
1989: Yiannis Grivas forms a caretaker government.
2003: A pair of Siamese twins from Thessaloniki are successfully separated in Rome.
2010: Policeman, Epaminondas Korkoneas, is found guilty, by a court in Amfissa, of intentionally shooting 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos on December 6, 2008. He is sentenced to life imprisonment. A second policeman, Vasilis Saraliotis, is convicted of complicity and receives a 10-year sentence.
2010: Cypriot Christopher Pissarides wins a share of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economics.

1930: Argyris Karayiannis breaks the Greek record in the pole vault with 3.76m.
1964: Kostas Nestoridis - at age 34 - plays the game of his life as AEK defeat Apollon Athens 7-1 at Rizoupolis Stadium. Nestoridis scores three goals with Spiros Pomonis and Lefteris scoring two each. The two scored by Turkish-Greek legend, Lefteris, would be the last of his illustrious career.
1978: Greece trounce Finland 8-1 in a Euro 1980 qualifier as Thomas Mavros scores 3, Takis Nikoloudis and Giorgos Delikaris 2 each and Mike Galakos one.
2003: Greece defeat N. Ireland 1-0 and qualify for the finals of Euro 2004.
2011: Greece qualify for the finals of Euro 2012 with a 2-1 victory over Georgia in Tbilisi. The win extended the Greek side's unbeaten streak to 16 games.
