- 1836: By Royal order, the Greek Royal Mint was established.
- 1878: British troops occupied the island of Cyprus.
- 1900: Stadiou, Ermoi Aeolou and Philellinon streets in Athens were gaslit.
- 1943: 19 Greeks were executed by German occupation troops in retaliation for the blowing up of an Italian ship in Piraeus harbour.
