• May 31: PAOK coach Gyula Lorant suffers a heart attack during a football match.

October

• October 18: Andreas Papandreou is elected PM of Greece as PASOK triumph in the general elections, winning 48.06% of the vote.
• October 21: Andreas Papandreou is sworn in as Prime Minister of Greece.

November

• November 23: The monotonic system (μονοτονικό σύστημα) is implemented at schools around the country in place of the polytonic system (πολυτονικό σύστημα)

• December 5: Adultery is decriminalized. Article 357 of the Penal Code that called for imprisonment as a penalty for adultery is revoked.
• December 10: Evangelos Averoff is elected Chairman of the New Democracy party.
