- January 8: While the Crimean War is going on, Greeks in Epirus revolt against Turkish rule.
- January 18: Greeks guerrilas attack Turkish positions near Komboti, Arta, Epirus.
- January 31: Greek rebels, under Spyros Karaiskakis, lay siege to the city of Arta.
February
- February 6: Gen. Theodoros Grivas takes command of the Greek struggle against Turkish rule in Epirus.
March
- March 10: Greece and Turkey sever diplomatic relations due to guerrila activity in Epirus, Thessaly and Macedonia.
- March 28: Greek rebels, under Efthymios Kontoyiannis, lay siege to the town of Domokos.
April
- April 1: Tsamis Karatasos leads a revolt of Greeks in the Chalkidiki peninsula.
- April 22: Greek rebels, under Spyros Karaiskakis, defeat Turkish forces at Plaka (Ioannina).
- April 29: Britain and France demand that Greece distance herself from the revolts in Epirus, Thessaly and Macedonia.
May
- May 4: Greek Guerrilas enter Kalambaka, Thessaly.
- May 14: French and British war ships blockade Piraeus harbour during the Crimean War. The crews spread a cholera epidemic that decimates the population of the greater Athens area.
June
- June 1: Turkish forces put down the Greek revolt in the Chalkidiki peninsula.
August
- August 26: Makarios I is ordained Archbishop of Cyprus.
