January

• January 1: OTE begins offering automated services to subscribers; weather and on duty hospital information.
• January 9: The Greek government officially announces that 4,000 Greeks were forced to leave Istanbul during 1964 - the year of the Cyprus crisis.
• January 22: Aliki Vougiouklaki marries Dimitris Papamichail.
• January 27: PAOK are crushed by Olympiakos 0-4 at Toumba thanks to goals by Botinos, Gioutsos, Aghanian and Giorgos Sideris. Eleven years later (January 4, 1976) PAOK will take their revenge at Karaiskaki Stadium (Olympiakos-PAOK 0-4)

February

• February 23: EIR (present-day ERT) broadcasts on Television for the first time.

May

• May 9: After 1,088 scoreless minutes, Panathinaikos goalkeeper, Takis Economopoulos, finally concedes a goal. The last time he had been scored against was January 17, 1965.
• May 12: AEK draw 5-time European Champions Real Madrid 3-3 in a friendly before 29,000 fans. Mimis Papaioannou (2) and Kostas Papageorgiou score for the Greek side.

• July 5: Maria Callas appears for the last time in an opera, at Covent Garden in London, in "Tosca" directed by Franco Zefirelli.
• July 15: PM Georgios Papandreou's government is brought down by King Constantine II.
• July 21: Student Sotiris Petroulas is killed during a pro-Papandreou protest in Athens.

• August 20: Elias Tsirimokos is asked to form a government after Georgios Athanasiadis-Novas fails to get a vote of confidence in Parliament.

September

• September 17: Stephanos Stephanopoulos is asked to form a government after Elias Tsirimokos fails to get a vote of confidence in Parliament.

November

• November 3: AEK defeat World Champions Inter 2-1. AEK's goals were scored by Andreas Stamatiadis and Kostas Nikolaidis.

December

• December 7: Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras and Pope Paul VI agreed to a revocation of the mutual excommunication decrees of 1054; this historic event was accomplished through simultaneous services in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the patriarchal church in Constantinople.
