- January 11: Britain calls for Greece to enter World War I on the side of the Entente allies in exchange for territory in Asia Minor.
- January 14: Gen Ioannis Metaxas issues a report to PM Eleftherios Venizelos warning of the difficulties of Greek military involvement in Asia Minor.
- January 27: A powerful earthquake (6.6 on the Richter scale) strikes Ithaca and the surrounding area.

- February 21: Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos resigns after a series of disagreements - mostly focused around entry into World War I - with King Constantine I.

- April 2: The Greek-American daily National Herald commences publication in New York.
