- January 21: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November unsuccessfully attempt to assassinate US official George Karos.
February
- February 1: Greek PM Andreas Papandreou and Turkish PM Turgut Ozal, sign the Davos Accord.
- February 20: At the first Indoors Meeting Athina, held in the Peace and Friendship Stadium, Niki Bakogianni sets a new Greek record in the high jump with 1.87m. Long jumper Kostas Koukodimos runs the 60m race in 6.85!
- February 21: George Vasiliou is elected President of Cyprus.

- March 1: The Revolutionary Organisation 17 November murder industrialist, Alexandros Athanasiades-Bodosakis, on Kifisias Avenue in Filothei.
- March 17: Sports fans in Larisa block the National Motorway protesting their local team's loss of four points in a doping scandal. The PASOK government will intervene and restore the four points to AE Larisa FC.

- April 22: Dimitris Christofias is elected Secretary General of AKEL, succeeding Ezekias Papaioannou who died earlier in the month.

- November 2: Nikos Anastopoulos plays his final game for the National Football Team of Greece against Romania.
- November 23: George Koskotas is arrested in Massachusetts where he had fled following his indictment in October.
