January

• January 6: Greek Prime Minister Alexandros Diomedes resigns amid a scandal involving members of his government. Ioannis Theotokis forms a government.
• January 8: 40-year old former Olympiakos forward, Christoforos Rangos, inserts himself in the lineup of AO Zografos - the team he is coaching - when one of his players does not show up. He dies in the 28th minute of the match of a heart attack.
• January 15: The Church of Cyprus organises a referendum as to the future status of the island colony. 97% of all participants vote for Enosis with Greece.

March

• March 5: The national elections of Greece prove inconclusive as no party gains a majority of seats in Parliament.
• March 8: Greece becomes a member of CISM.
• March 23: Sofoklis Venizelos forms a government.

April

• April 15: Nikolaos Plastiras forms a government.

May

• May 6: A village is started in Hungary to house the Greek communists that arrived in the country after their defeat in the Greek Civil War. The village will come to be known as Beloiannisz, after Nikos Beloyiannis.

August

• August 22: Jason Zirganos swims across the English Channel in 16hrs 19mins.

September

• September 13: Sofoklis Venizelos forms a government.

October

• October 20: Bishop Makarios of Kition is elected Archbishop of Cyprus.

November

• November 11: The 13th Squadron, made up of seven C-47 "Dakota" transport planes, departs for Korea.
• November 15: A Greek Expeditionary Force, under Lt Col George Koumanakos, embarks at Piraeus for Korea.
• November 19: Dimitris Pierrakos is buried with honours in Athens. The Panathinaikos footballer had been killed in the Battle of Pogradec during WW II.
• November 28: Hellenic-Yugoslavian diplomatic relationships, severed during the Civil War, are re-established.

December

• December 9: The first Greek land forces arrive in Pusan to take part in the Korean War.
• December 20: Nikos Belogiannis, member of the Central Committee of KKE, is arrested as he returns to Greece to help organize the party's structure.
