  • May 16: Greek football referee Christos Michas officiates the European Cup Winners Cup final between AC Milan - Leeds Utd. (1-0) in Thessaloniki. He will be punished later by the Greek Football Federation for his many grievous errors which affected the outcome of the match.
  • May 23: The Greek military vessel "Velos" sails to Italy where its crew seeks political asylum from the military Junta that rules Greece.

  • June 1: The Junta declares the Greek Monarchy abolished.

  • July 1: Spyros Kontosoros breaks the Greek record in the 3000m steeplechase with 8:25.6.
  • July 14: Archbishop Makarios III defrocks the three Cypriot Metropolitans who had earlier called for his resignation from the Presidency of the island-republic.
  • July 19: A Palestinian attacks the offices of El Al in Athens. He captures two hostages but releases them after negotiations with the Greek police.
