Football A Division
The A' Division (first division) or Alpha Ethniki or Super League or, as of the 2019 - 2020 season, Super League 1, is the highest professional football league in Greece. At present (from the 2019/2020-season), 14 clubs compete in the league, playing each other team in the league twice, once at home and once away. At the end of the regular season, the top six clubs qualify for the championship round. Teams play each other again two times (again). The bottom eight club are forced to play in the relegation round. Teams play each other just one time. As of 2019 the last team is relegated to Beta Ethniki, or Super League 2 as of the 2019 - 2020 season, the second-level league. The club that finishes on position #13 has to play relegation-promotion games against the club that finishes on #2 in the Super League 2.
As of the 2021-2022 season, the league is entitled to one entrant in the UEFA Champions League. The champions have to surpass qualifying rounds before they can advance to the group stage. Which qualifying round depends on the position Greece earned in previous years in the European ranking. The winners of the Greek Cup and two highest top-finishing club outside the CL qualificant or the three highest top-finishing club outside the CL qualificant if the cup is won by one of the clubs qualified for the qualifying rounds of the Champions League are entitled to participate in the qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League. Which qualifying round depends on the position Greece earned in previous years in the European ranking.
