- March 19: The remains of poet Andreas Kalvos arrive in Greece from England for re-burial.
April
- April 30: Greece defeat Israel 2-1 thanks to two late Babis Serafeidis goals.

- May 5: Sophoklis Venizelos calls for the legalisation of the Communist Party of Greece.
- May 22: Kostas Sfikas breaks the Greek record in the triple jump with 15.45m.

- June 19: Giorgos Papavasiliou breaks the Greek record for the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:45.8
July
- July 3: Athens daily "To Vima" announces it will no longer print two obsolete diacritics of the Greek language: the grave accent ("vareia") and the iota subscript ("ypogegrammeni").
- July 6: The constitution of the newly-established Republic of Cyprus is finalised.
- July 22: Giorgos Marsellos breaks the Greek record in the high jump with 1.97m.
- July 24: AEK lose 3-2 to Panionios on the last match day of the 1960 Football Championship. The unexpected result allows Panathinaikos to catch AEK and contest the title in a playoff game.
- July 31: Panathinaikos win the first Greek league title after beating AEK 2-1 in a playoff game.
- July 31: The first legislative elections take place in the newly-established Republic of Cyprus. 35 Greeks and 15 Turks are elected in the unicameral House of Representatives.

- August 16: Cyprus is officially proclaimed a republic with Archbishop Makarios III as president and Dr Fazil Kucuk as vice-president.
- August 26: A woman - Stavroula Gouvoussi - is executed for the first time in Greece for a crime: she had drowned her pregnant daughter-in-law.
September
- September 2: Dimitris Gouvousis is executed for the murder of his wife. One week earlier, his mother became the first Greek woman ever executed for the same crime.
- September 8: Crown Prince Constantine wins gold at the Rome Olympiad in Dragon class sailing. His crew consisted of Odysseus Eskitzoglou and Giorgos Zaimis.
- September 17: Cyprus is accepted into the UN.
October
- October 1: Cyprus is officially declared an independent state.
- October 8: General Georgios Grivas announces the formation of a new political party: the "National Recovery Movement".
- October 27: Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis inaugurates Kaftantzoglio Stadium in Thessaloniki
- October 31: Olympiakos centre back, Mimis Stefanakos, weds actress Martha Karayianni.
November
- November 6: Panathinaikos play their first official European competitive football game against the Czechoslovakian team of Spartak Hradec Kralove for the European Champions Cup and lose 1-0.
